You're bored. It's February, you've been shovelling the white stuff since November, you can't face another trip to the mall and you've got a bad case of cabin fever. Here's an idea that will wake up your spirit and replenish your creative soul. Take a look at some wonderfully off the wall or just a bit skewed interpretations of the theme Out of the Box presented by a group of local textile artists.
The "Out of the Box" group presents wall art, quilts, soft sculptures, and some textile pieces that defy categorization. What they all have in common is that each piece is somewhat to the left of traditional. For some of the artists, the creative process builds a connection between the artist's imagination and the irony and humour in the world. Others choose a subject they really understand, and then focus on the intensity of that interest putting their own artistic skills to the test. Some artists challenge the viewer's perceptions by presenting commonplace objects in a fresh way. All in all, it is a show that will pique your curiosity, challenge your imagination and may even banish those cabin fever blues.
